European The European Central Bank (ECB) intends to revise the design of euro banknotes, the Bank of Finland says in a press release

The new layout is expected to be released by 2024. During the planning process, Europeans will be consulted.

The process begins with setting up working groups. The purpose of the groups is to find out the views of people living in the euro area on themes suitable for banknotes.

An expert group composed of representatives of the various euro area countries will then present the most relevant themes to the Governing Council.

For working groups Efforts have been made to attract a wide range of experts in various fields, including historians and experts in the natural sciences, social sciences, visual arts and technology.

“Euro banknotes have come to stay. They are a visible and tangible sign that Europe is holding on, even in times of crisis, and demand for euro banknotes has remained strong. Euro banknotes have now been in use for 20 years and it is time to redesign them so that all Europeans feel at home, ”says the President of the ECB. A design competition will be held on the basis of the themes finally selected for the banknotes. The final decision on the design of banknotes is taken by the Governing Council.

There is currently another series of euro banknotes called the Europa series. Its banknotes were introduced in stages in 2013–2019.
