The Region of Murcia has a total of 42 cases of monkeypox, according to the latest balance from the Ministry of Health. In the last week, nine more infected were registered, as indicated by the National Epidemiological Surveillance Network (Renave). At the national level, Spain already reaches 6,119 confirmed cases, 327 more than last Tuesday.
By autonomous communities, Madrid leads the list with 2,216, ahead of Catalonia (1,825). Below 1,000 reported cases are the rest of the autonomous communities: Andalusia (739), Valencian Community (405), the Basque Country (188), the Balearic Islands (169) and the Canary Islands (144). Below 100 are Galicia (95) , Aragon (61), Castilla y León (57), Asturias (55), Castilla-La Mancha (44), the Region of Murcia (42), Extremadura (30), Cantabria (29), Navarra (16), La Rioja (4), Ceuta (0) and Melilla (0).
Of the reported cases, a total of 6,009 are men and 110 are women. Age ranges from 10 months to 88 years, with a median age of 37 years. Of the 5,768 cases for which information is available, the first reported case began symptoms on April 26 and the last on August 16. Up to 4,585 of 6,119 cases with available information were men who have sex with men (75%).
Health explains that there is a delay between the date of onset of symptoms and the date of diagnostic confirmation, with a median of 6 days, as well as a delay in the notification of cases, so “the interpretation of the last days of the curve epidemic must be done with caution.
