Real Madrid, Ancelotti: “I live a dream, I hope I don’t wake up, Florentino Perez is the key to our victories”
“It’s a very nice feeling, but it’s not the amount of trophies won that’s important but rather experiencing these evenings here. This second chapter at Real Madrid seems like a dream, I hope I don’t wake up. Florentino Perez was also very happy, that’s the key to all of this. Many congratulations to him who has surpassed the Bernabeu in terms of number of Champions League wins.” These are the words of Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelott, on Sky Sport’s microphone, after the Champions League victory, his fifth as coach. “My son, a technical collaborator, and I are a family, but Real Madrid is a family. And working in a family is better than working in an industry. This helps us a lot. I’m also happy because my grandchildren are starting to understand how important Real Madrid is.”
“Toni Kroos leaves after this match and it’s difficult for us to accept it, but he does it in a big way by lifting his sixth trophy in this competition”, adds Ancelotti. Carletto looks to the future: “This competition has given me fantastic sensations and I will try to renew them, this is the objective. I am lucky enough to work in the best club in the world. Here there is no danger of having a full belly. We will return next season with the same always wanted to. It was a privilege for me to return to work here.”
Real Madrid, Brahim Diaz: “At half-time Ancelotti asked us to pressure Borussia”
“Ancelotti asked us to press Borussia Dortmund more during the break and Real Madrid did what they always do, which is to win. Our mentality is to win every game. We only lost two games.”
Real Madrid, Bellingham: “Ancelotti took me to a higher level”
“It’s difficult to describe in words the impact Ancelotti had on me. He made me feel like a star. He took my game to a higher level together with his staff”, Bellingham’s words to Sky.
Real Madrid, Vinicius: “There’s everything about Ancelotti in this victory”
“There is everything about Ancelotti in this victory. We work for each other and in the end we always win. We won from Real Madrid, I love this club and I am grateful to those who brought me here – the words of Vinicius to Sky – The president bought me when I was very young, paying me very dearly, but I would say it was a good investment (laughs).

Financial Times celebrates Ancelotti, ‘elderly people know how to take risks’
The Financial Times also celebrates Carlo Ancelotti’s seventh Champions League, using the 64-year-old coach from Emilia – who led Real Madrid to yet another triumph – to illustrate the “ability of older people to shock, because often the taste for risk increases with age”. In short, it is not necessarily the case that the youngest are the true revolutionaries and courageous, as demonstrated – according to the FT – by the case of Ancelotti which goes hand in hand with the story of Gian Piero Gasperini, who at 66 years old built an Atalanta capable of amaze and dominate the Europa League (and will have to challenge Ancelotti’s Blancos for the super cup).
The newspaper’s thesis is that in an increasingly ‘calculator’ type of football where all the values, passes and distance covered are studied, Ancelotti “has resisted this super-engineered version of the game”. Of course, we read, at a certain point “his style was seen as old-fashioned”, and this gave him “the air of a general from the musket era who complained that mechanized warfare was unchivalrous”.
But the newspaper – faced with the continuous triumphs – recognizes that a “younger” coach would perhaps have been much more inclined to give in to the fashion of super-technological football whereas the Emilian coach has been able to resist the pressure by working on his game with a tenacious and courageous approach. “The value of Ancelotti’s age – we read – is therefore not prudence. It is almost the opposite: a challenge to conventions, born from the fact of no longer worrying about his own reputation. Part of his ‘carefree’ is innate, without a doubt But it has grown, not diminished, with time.” In short, a ‘senior’ as courageous as a young man. Indeed more.
European Super Cup, match between Atalanta and Real Madrid on 14 August in Warsaw
Real Madrid will therefore be Atalanta’s opponent in the European Super Cup final. The appointment – in a challenge that will see two Italian coaches, Gian Piero Gasperini and Carlo Ancelotti, on the field – is for next August 14th at the National Stadium in Warsaw when the Bergamo team, winners of the Europa League last May 22nd, will challenge the Spanish, who won the fifteenth Champions League in their history tonight.
Carvajal and Vinicius knock out Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid wins its 15th Champions League
Real Madrid wins the Champions League for the 15th time in its glorious history. The Blancos beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the Wembley final thanks to goals in the 74th minute by Carvajal, with a header following an assist from Kroos in his farewell match in a merengue shirt, and in the 83rd minute by Vinicius with a diagonal winner from a pass of Bellingham. A match where the Germans played decidedly better in the first half but were unable to score, the Spaniards improved in the second half until they found yet another victory. New triumph for Carlo Ancelotti in his fifth Champions League as coach, the seventh in total, with the two won by the player.
Less than 30 seconds after kick-off and three fans peacefully invade the pitch, two leave the pitch alone, while a third is tackled by four security personnel. After two minutes the match resumes. In the 6th minute, first initiative by Sabitzer, who runs away with the ball and crosses from the right: he intercepts Rudiger with his head and clears. In the 12th minute there was an excellent exchange between Bellingham and Valverde, except for the Uruguayan’s left-footed shot which ended very high. Two minutes pass and the yellow-black reply arrives. Schlotterbeck’s launch for Fullkrug who starts in a regular position behind Rudiger, an excellent ball in tow for Brandt who misses the target. Shortly after the quarter of an hour, Vinicius tries but his left-footed shot is inaccurate. In the 21st minute, a great chance for the Germans: Hummels finds a corridor for Adeyemi, free to fly past Courtois, the German goes around the Real goalkeeper but goes wide, favoring Nacho’s sliding save.
In the 23rd minute Dortmund are still on the attack. The invitation is from Sancho for Fullkrug, the attacker’s position at the limit (it would have been evaluated by the VAR) and a shot into the corner that hits the post. In the 27th minute Vinicius looks for Bellingham in the area, with a last-gasp advance from Schlotterbeck. Shortly after, Adeyemi shoots with his left foot, a diagonal shot blocked by Courtois. Fullkrug tries to head the rebound on the rebound, but his pass is to the opposing goalkeeper. In the 35th minute, Vinicius received a yellow card as he pressed Kobel very high and brought him down as he entered late. Shortly afterwards Schlotterbeck also received a warning for protesting. In the 41st minute Sabitzer takes aim from distance and shoots with his right foot: Courtois gets his hands on it and blocks it. Before the end of the first half, like Schlotterbeck, Sabitzer also exaggerates with the referee who warns him. After 4 minutes of added time, a half ended in which Real Madrid never had a shot on target.

In the 4th minute of the second half Kroos, in his last game in the white jersey, came close to scoring from a free kick but Kobel managed to deflect it for a corner. From the corner Carvajal tries to head it just over. In the 12th minute Carvajal again, this time with a right-footed shot that was blocked by Maatsen, making it an easy save for Kobel. At 18′ from the front Brandt serves Adeyemi, who crosses for Fullkrug to run in: header and Courtois puts his fists on it. In the 20th minute, the first brilliant shot from Rodrygo, who runs away from Maatsen and looks for a low shot in the centre: Schlotterbeck closes. Shortly afterwards Kroos crosses for Vinicius’s head: the ball goes wide. In the 24th minute, a great opportunity for the Merengues. Vinicius crosses into the area from the left, the ball misses Bellingham’s head and is touched by Kobel who comes out high and ends up just wide.
In the 28th minute, great play by Vinicius to beat Ryerson, Hummels takes care of blocking him for a corner. A minute passes and Real gets the match goal: Kroos’ cross for Carvajal’s winning header. Having found the advantage, the game becomes downhill for the Spaniards. In the 32nd minute Camavinga serves Bellingham from an excellent position, a right footed shot but Schlotterbeck’s deflection keeps the Germans standing. In the 35th minute Kroos tries from a free kick, with Kobel still present to respond. In the 37th minute Nacho almost scored with a header from a corner: Kobel deflected it with his fingertips. In the 38th minute the second goal came with Vinicius. Maatsen is surprised by Bellingham, who opens for Vinicius: winning diagonal and 2-0.
Two minutes later Kroos’ adventure at Real Madrid ends: Modric is brought in, but he has just renewed for a year with Los Blancos. Joselu also comes on in place of Bellingham. In the 42nd minute a goal by Fullkrug, who had scored following an assist from Malen, was canceled for offside. After 5 minutes of injury time granted by the Slovenian referee Vincic, the Madrid celebrations can begin.
