The Michelin Cup in race 1 of the penultimate round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia at Vallelunga has also definitively entered its climax and yesterday’s leading trio, made up of Gnemmi, Fenici and De Amicis, although not exactly in this order, were able to open up a further gap with the competition to launch themselves into the final sprint that will culminate in Monza in two weeks.
Of course, we still have to see how today’s race 2 will go. Someone (De Giacomi in particular) could also get back into the game, but it would take a special Sunday. Otherwise, the cards could get mixed up even further up front, where Fenici and Raptor Engineering are still in the lead over the Ebimotors duo, with 2 more points on De Amicis (fooled right in the last corners to win the final second place in race 1), but with Gnemmi who brings the pack of the scrum even closer.
The Lombard driver needed success like bread and yesterday he was perfect: “Very important victory for sure. – explained Gnemmi after the podium –; my championship is reopening and it’s great for morale, I’m very happy, then it started well from the tests, then in qualifying, then I started off at my best and I overtook Fenici at the start”.
That was the decisive moment to take the lead, but then his race also experienced a particular management: “I had a couple of Pro drivers behind me who favored me a bit until halfway through the race. Then when you’re in front, time never passes… There was the safety car and I admit that on the last lap I was the ‘worst Fulgenzi’, obviously in the positive sense of the best Fulgenzi, a great driver, someone who doesn’t let anyone pass when he doesn’t want to let anyone pass: I only thought about defending myself, I think I put the car in first at least three points on the track, no one was supposed to pass me. And today it would be nice to do it again!”.
The grid will be the same among the protagonists of the Michelin Cup, with Fenici again on pole right in front of Gnemmi and De Amicis. A new “triello” is expected, in short. And we start again from the following ranking balancewhich obviously does not yet include the “waste” factor (which at the moment would favor De Amicis by a few lengths): 1. Fenici 89 points; 2. De Amicis 86; 3. Gnemmi 82; 4. De Giacomi 60; 5. Brusa 53.
