The Aveir Dr wireless dual-chamber system available in Italy “is revolutionary because, compared to conventional pacemakers, it does not require wires or a subclavian case. The two pacemakers without electrocatheters, once positioned in the heart, communicate with each other and allow the patient to be stimulated as physiologically as possible, eliminating the risk of having catheters, significantly reducing the risk of catheter breakage and infections”. This is how Antonio Curnis, head of the Electrophysiology and Electrostimulation Laboratory, Spedali Civili di Brescia, comments on Abbott’s announcement of the availability in Italy of Aveir Dr, the first wireless dual-chamber pacemaker system in the world to treat people with a slower or abnormal heart rhythm.
