During an event last week, the Duke of Edinburgh and likely future King of the United Kingdom, Prince William, criticized companies that are promoting space tourism. Actor William Shatner, known as Captain Kirk, responded to the statements after traveling into space on Blue Origin by Amazon owner Jeff Bezos.

The prince said it’s crucial to focus on this planet rather than going to space to experiment and think of solutions for the future. For him, the carbon emission of these flights is harmful to the planet. Shatner, for his part, said the prince did not understand the purpose of the trips.
According to the actor, travel is still a “baby step” towards the transfer of polluting industries to space. For him, “the prince is missing the point”. At age 90, Shatner became the oldest person in history to go into space.
