American actress Cameron Diaz during the podcast Rule Breakers said about discrimination against women in Hollywood. A recording of a conversation with her was published on website BBC.
The actress said that in the 1990s and 2000s, misogyny was commonplace in the Hollywood film industry. At the same time, according to Diaz, the situation has improved.
“Thank God we now live in a time where we can say, ‘This is out of bounds. Then you couldn’t do it because you would have lost your job. And in no way do I justify it, it just happened, ”said the 49-year-old celebrity.
She noted that working in Hollywood and the objectification of women also greatly influenced her perception of her own appearance. Previously, the actress evaluated her appearance, based on the standards of beauty accepted in society. Now she tries to look less often in the mirror and treat her body with respect.
In 2020, Cameron Diaz revealed the reason for her departure from cinema. She stated that she decided to stop working because she did not like that she “given her life to other people”: “When you act in films … they own you. You’re on the set 12 hours a day for months. You don’t have time for anything else. And I realized that I give parts of my life to other people. They take her away. I just had to take it back, take charge of my life.”
Cameron Diaz starred in such films as The Mask, My Guardian Angel, Gangs of New York. The last film with her participation, the musical “Annie”, was released in 2014.
