European Union scientists announced that April 2024 was the eleventh consecutive month in which record global temperatures were recorded, according to data issued by the European climate change service “Copernicus”.
Last month was also the first April recorded with a global average temperature of more than 15 degrees Celsius, according to Copernicus data.
According to Copernicus President Carlo Bontempo, the increasing concentration of greenhouse gases “will continue to push the global temperature towards new record levels.” The average air temperature at the surface in April was 15.03 degrees Celsius, 0.67 degrees Celsius higher than the average in April for the years 1991 to 2020, the service said on Wednesday.
In Europe, April was 1.49°C warmer than the comparison period.
According to the European Environment Agency, Europe is experiencing the fastest rise in temperature among all continents.
