The Call of Duty Warzone Esports World Championships will return in 2024 with a new global finals format, more qualifying matches and a $1 million prize pool, Activision announced. The competition begins on May 24 for North America and EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) with the In-Game Open Online Qualifier, which will take place over a three-day period. The qualifiers will take place from 6pm to midnight, from 24 to 26 May. During these sessions, players will have to record their best scores with the trio registered on FACEIT, using the traditional WSOW scoring system, which combines placements and eliminations. At the end of the open qualification period, the best 68 teams from the two regions will advance to the group stage.
Taking last year’s requests into account, the game regions have been updated. The MEA region has been incorporated into Europe as EMEA, while ANZ (Australia and New Zealand) and Asia will merge into a single region, APAC (Asia-Pacific). In Central and Latin America, there will be two regions: LATAM North (including Mexico) and LATAM South (including Brazil). Expansion regions will have open registration until June 13, and up to 136 three-player teams will compete in 3 rounds of matches in custom lobbies. Registration priority will be given to captains who participated in the WSOW last year. Teams will be divided into four groups per region based on in-game performance. Group matches will take place over two weeks, with each group playing once against the other groups in a 5-drop match. The top 34 teams will advance to the Upper Bracket, while the bottom 34 will advance to Round 1 of the Lower Bracket.
In the Upper Bracket, the top 17 teams will advance to the Qualifying Finals. The remaining teams will advance to Round 2 of the Lower Bracket, where they will compete against the top 17 teams from Round 1. The bottom 17 teams from Round 1 of the Lower Bracket will be eliminated, while in Round 2 of the Lower Bracket, 17 teams will advance to the Qualifier Finals , with the other 10 going to the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ). This year’s competition also introduces innovations in the final phase. The day will begin with the SoloYolo, where $50,000 will be awarded to the winner. After this phase, teams will move to Urzikstan for the main event, which will introduce the Call of Duty Warzone Match Point as a victory condition to increase the excitement of the final drops. Teams will need to surpass a certain points threshold to become match-point eligible and then win the map to claim the title of WSOW champions.
