The first day of the weekend valid for the Dutch Grand Prix added an important chapter in the drivers’ market: starting next season, Oscar Piastri will be the new McLaren driver. In this way, the Formula 2 champion will replace his compatriot Daniel Ricciardo, already certain from the eve of the Belgian GP that he will not continue his career with the Woking team. At the moment, however, the Australian’s next destination is still unknown.
The 33-year-old, who has already reiterated his desire to continue in the top flight, could sign an agreement with one of the three most potential options: in addition toAlpinewhich would seem, however, more ‘reserved’ to Pierre Gasly – at least following a clue that emerged from a video published by Ferrari – the other team would respond to the name of the Haas, which has not yet confirmed Mick Schumacher for next season. In conclusion, the last ‘available’ team would become the Williamsonly and exclusively in the event that the Grove team decides not to renew the contract a Nicholas Latifi.
Should a similar case occur, Williams could thus become one of the most sought-after opportunities, as well as the ideal one for Ricciardo: this, at least, is the opinion of Jenson Button, former driver of the Grove team in 2000 and now engaged in the role of consultant for the same British company. The 2009 world champion, interviewed in Zandvoort by Sky Sports F1in fact, believes that the team could be the best solution for the Australian, especially in terms of prospects: “It’s hard when you’ve had a bad experience – has explained – I’m sure he doesn’t want to spend a couple of years developing a car. But in Williams, I would go for sure! Obviously I work with them, and I know what they have in store and what has changed in recent years with the team. So it’s one truly exciting prospect, work with a team to develop a car that fits the way you drive. I am one of those who, like Daniel, wants a car that fits his style. Therefore it would be a perfect scenario“.
