The president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, announced that he will send to Costa Rica the plane with humanitarian aid that he had offered to Spain for those affected by DANA.
“We had a mission ready to go to Valencia with 300 rescuers, medical supplies, food… a plane full. We have had it ready for daysbut I understand that the Government of Spain, for some reason, is not accepting international aid and we can send it here tomorrow,” Bukele said after a bilateral meeting in San José with the president of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves.
The offer, which was accepted by Chaves with a “God bless him!”, arose after the Costa Rican president announced that he would ask the United States for support to address to those affected by the rains of recent days that have affected various communities with floods, especially those located in the province of Guanacaste, on the Pacific coast.
The Salvadoran president offered this humanitarian aid plane to the Spanish Government on October 31, two days after the catastrophe caused by DANA. “At this moment, we have sent an offer of help to the Spanish Government through our Foreign Ministry. 300 rescuers and paramedics, along with 20 tons of equipmentmedicines and basic supplies, are ready to leave for Valencia,” he announced.
The Spanish Embassy in El Salvador publicly thanked that offer in a message spread on social networks: “Thank you President Nayib Bukele for the support offered and for the expressions of solidarity of the brother people of El Salvador in these very painful moments for those affected by DANA and for all Spaniards.
However, the Spanish Government did not accept that humanitarian aid and the plane never arrived from El Salvador to Valencia.
