Back to talking about the budget cap
The FIA has forwarded a request for clarification to the top teams Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari and Aston Martin on the F1 non-Activities which, according to the filters, have been regulated by the Federation through a technical directive, the TD45aimed precisely at unraveling a skein that is difficult to unravel when an F1 team branches out into different entities such as, for example, the case of Red Bull which is divided into Red Bull Racing, Red Bull Powertrains, Red Bull Advanced Technologies and Red Bull Advanced Services.
The first findings relating to compliance with the budget cap that emerged at the end of 2022 referring to 2021 highlighted a minor infraction by Red Bull and a procedural violation by Aston Martin. The Milton Keynes team was fined $7 million and 10% fewer hours to devote to wind tunnel development and CFD computer simulation. The question the paddock is asking is whether this year Red Bull will have ‘learned its lesson’ or if it will still not comply with the cost ceiling. Team principal Christian Horner spoke about it.
The words of Christian Horner
“We have had a very constructive period with the FIA and now have a huge amount of processes in place with regards to compliance across our organization – the words of Christian Horner in the press conference held on Saturday after the Sprint at the Red Bull Ring – over time the regulations consolidate and greater clarity is created also thanks to ‘technical’ directives such as the TD45. The regulations mature and everything becomes clearer, whereas before there was a bit of ambiguity”.
“We didn’t have to make any changes following the TD45 Horner added. all business structures are very different. Ferrari, for example, is a single entity that also encompasses the entire road car sector. So their ‘statement’ will necessarily be different from that of the teams who focus exclusively on F1. At Red Bull we have Red Bull Racing, Red Bull Powertrains, Red Bull Advanced Technologies and Red Bull Advanced Services. So, there’s a set of companies that need to interact with each other. But we worked closely with the FIA, who did a very thorough job on the budget cap“.
