Genoa – “Through the Campasso line no dangerous goods will pass through, it is a commitment we have made even if the Vas, strategic environmental assessment, allows it”. The mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci returned to one of the main concerns of the inhabitants and committees of Valpolcevera regarding the project to upgrade the Genoese railway hub. He did so in the City Council during the discussion of the Council resolution which modifies the Puc in order to be able to proceed with some regeneration projects in the areas concerned.
Bucci responded to a comment by the municipal councilor Mattia Crucioli (United for the Constitution) who asked for clarity on what was reported by the Vas, integrated into the document being voted on, in which “on page 13 – Crucioli noted – we read that the line of the Campasso will be used for dangerous goods, perhaps the Viareggio massacre has taught us nothing.”
Bucci explained that “if there is an opinion with wider margins it does not mean that those paths will be followed, for dangerous goods the Submersible line will be usednot the one close to the houses, and only if this reaches saturation will the Campasso line be exceptionally used, but this will not happen because if it happened it would mean that our depots would not be sufficient for traffic of this magnitude”.
The variant at the Puc, passed with 20 positive votes from the majority, 10 abstentions from the minority and the Crucioli's vote against, “not convinced by the mayor's explanation”, will allow the creation of public car parks and a sports facility for which a Spanish group has already come forward with a view to project financing. In recent days the city councilor Cristina Lodi (Action) had pointed out how this “mega facility with swimming pool and gym” risks “putting the existing facilities in Valpolcevera into difficulty”.
Today Simone D'Angelo, leader of the Pd group, underlined how “we should evaluate the needs of the populations instead of proposing interventions disconnected from the needs for the sake of spectacularization”. With the resolution, two agendas from the Toti list were voted on which asked both to address the discussion of the development projects for Valpolcevera in a special commission and to evaluate the possibility of introducing them into the future construction sites in Rivarolo and Campasso appropriate noise barriers.
