Multimatic and Ford Performance they unveiled a particular racing version of the suv Bronchus, imagining the vehicle as an ‘ace’ for desert racing and off-road racing in general. Ford has enjoyed transforming the model into a vehicle with a great off-road spirit, introducing a whole series of racing equipment into the passenger compartment that make it truly special. With wide-extension suspension, DSSV shock absorbers and a new cooling system, the Ford Bronco Desert Racer (DR) can tackle desert racing without getting too hot.
With its long experience, Multimatic has packaged a vehicle, derived from the four-door, which is also racing in appearance. The cage roll-bar and rear wings also stand out, while a completely modified frame is hidden from view to obtain reinforcements at every point. It is also the most powerful Bronchus ever, having obtained a 5-liter Coyote V8 engine with 400 horsepower.
“Bronco DR is our off-road racing SUV, designed to put enthusiasts behind the wheel of a force of nature in the desert“Said Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance Motorsports. “This collaboration between Ford Performance and Multimatic continues Bronco’s heritage of desert racing, which goes back to the overall victory of the Baja 1000, achieved by Rod Hall and Larry Minor, in a production Bronco in 1969.“.
The Bronco DR prototype will make its race debut in 2022 at the Baja, wearing the red, white, black and blue Ford Performance livery in honor of the Baja 1000 victory. The first 50 units of the model will be available for sale at the end of 2022 with a starting price of 200,000 dollars, at the exchange rate of 172,000 euros.
Returning to the technique, Multimatic has improved the HOSS (High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension) system exclusive to the Bronco brand. Compared to a four-door Badlands series Bronco, the DR version has 55.1% more suspension travel at the front, at 15.8 inches, and 58.6% more at the rear, at 17.4 inches. The vehicle, with a racing weight of approximately 2.8 tonnes, is fitted with 37-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T / A KM3 tires and beadlock wheels. The transmission is 10-speed. Torque is transmitted via independently electronically locking front and rear differential with final drive ratios of 4.70: 1. Large air intakes on the sides and another on the roof provide additional cooling to the rear mounted radiator.
For the optimization required by desert racing and weight savings, the air conditioning system, other interior comforts and all glass have been removed.
