British Ministry of Defense: “BBC” endangered the life and reputation of soldiers
The British Ministry of Defense has accused the BBC corporation of endangering the lives and reputation of soldiers, intending to release an investigation film about possible massacres of Afghan citizens by British special forces. The agency’s statement was published in Twitter.
The British Ministry of Defense stressed that the investigation of the channel draws conclusions on the basis of already investigated allegations. At the same time, the military police did not find sufficient evidence for a judicial investigation. “Insinuations to the contrary are irresponsible, false and endanger our brave personnel of the Armed Forces (AF) both on the ground and in terms of reputation,” the statement said.
According to site TV channel, journalists investigated a series of raids during which British Special Forces soldiers of the British Special Air Service (SAS) in 2010-2011 staged extrajudicial killings of Afghans who were suspected of having links with the Taliban movement (terrorist organization, banned in Russia). It turned out that the military may be involved in the illegal killings of at least 54 citizens of Afghanistan. Soldiers killed unarmed Afghans during night raids, according to former SAS members.
Release of the SAS Death Squads Exposed: A British War Crime? planned on Tuesday, July 12, at 21:00 (23:00 Moscow time).
In June, Zamir Kabulov, head of the Second Asia Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Russian President’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, announced that there were prospects for Moscow to recognize the government of the Taliban militants. He stressed that the first step towards this solution would be an ethno-politically inclusive government in Afghanistan.
