The brand new FW46 should continue the upward trend.
If there is a team that has climbed out of the depths, it is Williams. Now things have been getting worse little by little for the team from Grove, but the Mercedes-Benz engines were able to mask a lot.
The absolute low point was 2018, when Paddy Lowe had an absolute failure and Robert Kubica was slightly lacking in speed. The team achieved 1 point that year, coincidentally Kubica who moved from P12 to P10 after two disqualifications at the German GP (which Verstappen indeed won in a masterly way).
Williams FW46
Anyway, the team has been making progress since then. Last year, James Vowles (of Mercedes) replaced Jost Capito and continues his steady rise. Last season, Williams scored no fewer than 28 points, 27 of which came from Alexander Albon. This put Williams seventh that season, ahead of AlphaTauri and behind Alpine.
This year it should go even better and with this car, the FW46. Formula 1 cars are still named after Frank Williams, the founder of the F1 team. We have not yet received a press kit from Williams with the specifications. So we cannot share the 0-100 km/h time, top speed, horsepower and Nm. We also don't know the lap time on the Nordschleife.
Drivers
We do know that Alexander Albon and Logan Sargeant will be driving it. Albon has emerged as the undisputed team leader. Sargeant looks worse than he is. Nowadays it hardly happens that a driver is immediately fast in F1.
As you can see, the Livery for this season is also different. The cars are still black and blue. The red-white striping is a tip of the hat to the FW10 (Mansell) and the FW19 of Villeneuve. There is also a new sponsor: Komatsu.
The Williams FW46 is the second car to be unveiled. Last week we were already introduced to the Haas for next year: the VF-24. With these reveals, the liveries and sponsors are what matter most. It will not be the first time that a team enters the test phase with a completely different car.
