There are incredible stories and this is one of them: Romualdo Macedo Rodrigues, a 44-year-old fisherman, went out like every day to work in Oiapoque, in the state of Amapá, extreme north of Brazil. On the way to French Guiana, his ship began to fail until from one moment to another, it sank leaving him adrift in the Atlantic Ocean.

450 kilometers away and 11 days later, the castaway was found alive. He was dehydrated, confused and seriously injured by sunstroke, but his heart was still beating and it was all thanks to his sagacity, since before being “devoured” by the sea, he managed to enter the freezer of what had once been his boat.

Unusual way of surviving makes fisherman famous in Brazil.

However, his fight continued after the rescue, as other fishermen found him and thought he was an illegal immigrant and held him in Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname. There he lasted 16 days until he managed to prove his innocence and was repatriated on a flight to Brazil.
