The government announced last week the end of the payment of emergency aid and the beginning of Auxílio Brasil this November, which will replace Bolsa Família.
The idea is that the minimum payment is R$400 for more than 17 million Brazilians living in extreme poverty by the end of 2022. The amount, however, will not be able to pay for a basic food basket in any Brazilian capital.
+Auxílio Brasil: what can I buy with the R$ 400 of the program?
According to the National Survey of Food Baskets by the Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese), the price of the food basket, which includes 13 food products, rose in 11 capitals in September.
The cheapest basic food basket registered last month was in Aracaju, costing more than R$ 454, according to the survey. The most expensive was in São Paulo, for R$673.45, followed by Porto Alegre R$672.39, Florianópolis R$662.85 and Rio de Janeiro R$643.06.
With the trend for food prices to remain high, there is no prospect of a drop in these values.
