The former federal deputy and former national president of PT José Genoíno said find “interesting” a boycott “for political reasons that harm economic interests” The “determined” Jewish companies. The statement was made on Saturday (20 January 2024) in interview to the DCM (Diário do Centro do Mundo) TV, left-wing Brazilian political digital newspaper.
“This idea of rejection, this idea of boycotting for political reasons that hurt economic interests is an interesting way. There is even this boycott in relation to certain Jewish companies. There are, for example, boycotts of companies linked to the State of Israel. In fact, I think that Brazil should cut off commercial relations in the area of security and defense with the state of Israel”said Genoíno.

The former congressman made the statements after a web viewer said he was disappointed with Luiza Trajano, president of the board of directors of Magazine Luiza.
The businesswoman was one of more than 23,000 people who signed a petition asking the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), withdraw Brazil's support for South Africa's initiative to activate the UN International Court of Justice to investigate “acts and measures that may constitute genocide or related crimes” and order Israel's immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
During the newspaper's live broadcast, Genoíno had already defined the war in the Middle East as “genocide of the Palestinian people”. He stated that Israel promotes “destruction, liquidation and violence against children, women, young people and elderly people”.
“What is happening in the Gaza Strip puts at risk our sense of humanity as human beings, of defending the future of humanity. We must revolt against the atrocities committed by the Israeli government.”he said.
