Finland men’s boxing national team carrying force, 23 years old Arslan Khataev, was badly disappointed after freezing without a match at the Finnish Boxing Championships this weekend.

Khataev from Helsinki tours abroad to play a lot and waited very hard to reach the home crowd.

When the fixture lists were released a week ago, there was only one opponent in Khataev’s series. So there was a straight final. Khataev announced the match on social media, raffled off tickets and decided to make the event memorable.

“My good friend rap artist Ahti Peltonen with us thinking about a decent show, he’s made me a song, and the idea was for Ahti to pull it live when I come to the ring. The audience was coming from all over Finland all the way to Rovaniemi. Flights had been bought and corona tests taken for that purpose. ”

The match had to be sure until Friday’s weigh-in ceremony revealed that the opponent is not coming to the pound.

“His teammates congratulated me on the championship. I thought it was a joke at first. ”

Weighing after that it was not possible to change the series, but Khataev did not remain inactive. He tried to entice a competitor familiar from the lower series and also the only one left in his series to take on the show.

In that case, both would have retained their championships as they were the only participants in their series.

“I was trying to organize a match, sparria, anything. If I had known that without the match I would have gone to the upper or lower series. ”

The Games after is known to be forced to rest. Khataev has suffered from back pain for some time, but decided to wait for the operation until the Finnish Championships.

“I already had my back broken at the World Cup in the fall, but I fought until the end. There will be a small operation coming on Wednesday, after which it will take at least a couple of months before I’m okay. ”

At the World Championships in October, Khataev won three and lost one match. So he was one win away from the medal. The medal would have been welcome, as the men’s side of the last medal is over 20 years old.

Also in the Tokyo Olympic qualifiers, Khataev was sadly one win away from the Olympic venue.

In his previous career, Khataev has won, among other things, the European Youth Championship silver in 2015 and the Bundesliga Championship in Germany on the BC Traktor team in the 2018–19 season.

Ever Khataev has not been left without a match at the World Championships in the past, although it is not uncommon for that to happen. Now Khataev is kicking off the championship in Sunday’s finals.

“I’m going to get the championship and encourage my other companions.”

The final matches will take place at Helsinki Sports Hall from 3.30 pm. Khataev follows at least the matches of the series close to him.

“I’ve won all the 57 and 63 pound wrestlers, so I want to see how they do. The final of the 86-pound series also seems interesting, and then of course there is the 71 series and my ‘little brother’ in it. Sam Morovati. ”

Arslan Khataev considers Sam Morovat, a club friend who is taking part in the first Finnish Championships, to be a promise for the future. Picture from Helsinki’s Tarmo Hall in summer.
