Golden State tries to recover after the uphill start but this time it stops in the third quarter and is back in the series again. It’s super Smart too, 24 points. Race 4 Saturday in Massachusetts
Performance by applause from Boston who plays a super first half, undergoes the usual return of the Warriors in the third period but responds with great personality and runs away in the final fraction, going on to win game-3 116-100. The points of the Tatum-Brown-Smart trio, the defense of an excellent Robert Williams and the too many inattentions of the Warriors thus give the success that allows Boston to go 2-1 in the series.
The match
–
It takes the Celtics very little to shake off the dross from Game-2. The departure of the home team is the perfect medicine for the bad second half of Sunday’s match. Brown immediately finds pace from the perimeter and for Golden State’s messy defense there is trouble. The ball travels like a pleasure on the perimeter, Boston finds all the conclusions he wants and doesn’t even need Tatum’s feats to get the double-digit advantage in the middle of the first quarter. Horford also produces, on the other side with Thompson starting slowly the only security of Golden State’s attack is a Curry who, however, has to spend two fouls in the first six minutes of the match.
Come on Brown
–
Boston keeps his foot on the accelerator, catches rebounds in series attack and runs away. Brown is absolutely unstoppable, Golden State misses nine of his first 10 long range shots and goes down by 15 points. Klay Thompson shows signs of life in the final of a first quarter asked by Brown (17 points) and at the beginning of the second he tries to put Golden State back on track. The hosts respond blow for blow, taking advantage of the sleep of the Warriors defense. Boston touches +18 but then the gust materializes, long awaited by the Golden State fans, which puts the Californian team back into the game.
The ascent
–
A quick 10-0 in two minutes brings the guests closer but the end of the first half is still Celtics with Tatum and Smart bringing Boston back to +12. The hosts, pushed by a very hot audience, thus go to rest after having shot with an excellent 57% from the field in the first half. The typical third quarter of Golden State, however, is around the corner and punctually materializes. The Splash Brothers take the chair and the game changes. Steph finds his triple, Thompson follows closely, Boston, on the other hand, begins to get confused in attack. Also comes an incredible seven-point possession for the Warriors. Curry triple with foul that becomes, after the replay, “flagrant”, free for the Golden State player and possession for the guests that turns into a three-pointer by Porter Jr. The Warriors then move on to lead with yet another triple by Steph Curry (15 points in the third period) but at the end of the fraction Boston responds with character.
The counter-pass
–
The Celtics get back to playing and close the third period in crescendo, and then, with the baskets of Smart and Tatum, open the last fraction with a 9-2 that gives breath back to the TD Garden and brings Boston back to the double-digit advantage. The turnover, some even bizarre, of Golden State and the incredible defense of Robert Williams become a boon for the Celtics. Boston regains possession of the painted area and removes the specter of a comeback from Curry and his companions. The triple from the corner of Smart then gives the +14 to the Celtics who know a lot of judgment. Golden State raises the white flag, with Green coming out for fouls without sending them and telling the referees, so the Celtics for the umpteenth time respond with a success to a defeat in this postseason.
