Several fake Schengen stamps were found in the passport of a Russian woman when she was leaving Finland for Russia.
Nearly a Russian woman who had been staying in the Schengen area without permission for a year was caught on Thursday at the border crossing point in Vaalimaa. The woman was leaving Finland for Russia.
The woman was in Finland for only a few days, says the head of the investigation, captain Ossi Fonselius From the Border Guard of Southeast Finland.
“Most of the time he was elsewhere in the Schengen area, in this case Italy and Spain. In Spain, she had spent time with her friends and her boyfriend.”
The woman had come to Finland via Estonia.
“He has slowly traveled upwards from Europe, and was then leaving for Russia via Vaalimaa.”
Woman presented a Russian passport at the departure inspection. The passport contained a visa issued by Italy as a document entitling to stay in the Schengen area, which would be valid until July 2023.
The border inspectors suspected that the Schengen border control stamps on the passport did not correspond to genuine stamps. In addition, the woman’s account of the duration of her stay was not considered credible.
The woman was arrested on suspicion of forgery. The preliminary investigation revealed that he had stayed illegally in the Schengen area for a total of 359 days from July 2021.
The woman admitted that she had obtained six false Schengen border inspection stamps, four Serbian border inspection stamps and two Turkish border inspection stamps through the courier on two different occasions.
According to her words, the woman had paid the courier about 400 euros for the stamps. He admitted that he had obtained the stamps in order to stay in Europe for a longer continuous period than the validity period of the visa would allow.
Russian woman has been summoned to Kymenlaakso district court for forgery and foreigner violation. In addition, Migri has turned the woman over to Russia and banned her from entering the country for four years.
The matter will be dealt with before Christmas in the district court, Fonselius says.
“There will probably be a fine.”
Similar cases, where a person has stayed illegally in the Schengen area, are caught at the border crossing points of the Southeastern Finland Border Guard at a steady pace.
“There are several of these a month,” says Fonselius.
