(Reuters) – President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who is seeking reelection, mocked the decision of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) to ban electoral lives in the Planalto and Alvorada palaces during a broadcast carried out on his social networks this Sunday.
“Does the TSE know where I am doing this live?”, said Bolsonaro, to then, in an ironic tone, say “is he at Alvorada, failing to comply with the TSE’s order?”
Usually held in a library in Alvorada, this Sunday’s live took place in a room with a white wall with no obvious sign of identification.
“The Alvorada Palace is my residence, or isn’t it?”, the president complained.
TSE Minister Benedito Gonçalves, Inspector General of Electoral Justice, determined on Friday that Bolsonaro no longer broadcasts on social media of an electoral nature directly from Palácio da Alvorada and Palácio do Planalto, as this could harm equality. between candidates in the presidential election, as the president only uses these locations due to the position he holds.
Gonçalves also banned the service of translating pounds financed with public resources.
Bolsonaro spent much of the time of this Sunday’s live to ask for support for candidates for the state government and the Senate.
“We have to have a strong Senate, with independent names to help even control other Powers”, he said, asking voters to support names “in tune” with him.
The control Bolsonaro referred to could target the Federal Supreme Court (STF), since the Constitution says that it is up to the Senate to prosecute and judge court ministers – targets of constant attacks by the president – regarding crimes of responsibility.
