We just got in the car, we would like to do one phone call but… we don’t have the USB cable to connect our smartphone to the radio! We certainly cannot drive with the phone in hand (absolutely prohibited by the Highway Code). Fortunately, the solution is there: the Bluetootha system that allows, through radio wavesto let smartphone and vehicle “talk”.
What is Bluetooth?
Born in 1994 from an idea of the Swedish Ericssonlater developed with Nokia, Intel And Toshibathe Bluetooth is a wireless communication system. Its technology allows two devices within a short distance to share data, using one UHF short wave.
Today, they are more than 30 thousand companiesactive in the fields of telecommunications, electronics, information technology and network infrastructures, which support this system.
What is Bluetooth for in the car?
Bluetooth is used to communicate between the smartphone and the infotainment system of the car – the two devices recognize each other and match each other.
Thanks to Bluetooth, it is possible to “ask” the smartphone, through the car’s commands, to initiate a phone call, read a message, listen to a song. This makes the safer drivingas it allows you to perform certain gestures without taking your hands off the wheel.
Also motorcyclists they can use this system to connect helmet headsets, so as to answer the phone even while traveling without having to stop.
How to connect Bluetooth in the car
Before starting the connection, you need to make your smartphone visible to all Bluetooth devices. To activate the connection, simply select, from the car display, the name of the smartphone and confirm that the code of the device and the vehicle are the same. It will be possible to accept that, via Bluetooth, the car accesses contacts and messages. Alternatively, you can select, from the devices recognized by the phone, the car name.
Since Bluetooth consumes the battery, the connection with the smartphone must be reactivated every time the vehicle is switched on – via a shortcut icon for Android, from the control center for iPhones.
Modern car radios already have the integrated Bluetooth receiver. If, on the other hand, you have an older car, the connection can be made via an adapter, or a 3.5mm jackplugged into the headphone jack.
What is Bluetooth for in the car?
When smartphone and vehicle are connected, they can exchange data and make some operations that the driver can “request” from the car easier and safer.
The two main activities are talking on the speakerphone and listening to music saved on the phone without a wired headset that could obstruct driving.
In newer systems, the driver can also ask for the reading messages – with relative voice response. All this, therefore, allows you to make your trip more enjoyable and, at the same time, safer.
