Bloober Team revealed in an interview with IGN during the Digital Dragons conference that the studio rejected the possibility of developing a video game on Saw thus favoring Blair Witch.
Here’s what CEO Piotr Babieno said about how the company came to work on Blair Witch instead of Saw: “I was working with our good partner, United Talent Agency. We were meeting a lot of people in the industry from Hollywood. UTA is highly recognized and has good relationships with all major film studios“.
“We talked to multiple studios and some of them came to us and said ‘Ok, guys, you are focusing on horror and we would like to work with you’. But the licensees were very direct: ‘We would like to make this story. We would love to have the game in 2021 to coincide with the launch of our film, ‘and so on. We decided: ‘Ok, that’s not what we want to do’“.
“Then Lionsgate came up to us and said, ‘Guys, we love Layers of Fear. We have seen what you are doing with Observer, so we would like to work with you. This is our list of our horror IPs, pick one. ‘ We could have chosen Saw, which is more popular than Blair Witch, but we decided to take Blair Witch because the universe has a lot of opportunities to build something new. This is why we chose this project“.
Currently Bloober Team is on everyone’s lips because a recent rumor would indicate that the team is working on Silent Hill 2 Remake, but for now everything is silent.
