With the new Diablo and Overwatch 2 in development, Blizzard seems to be very focused on its franchises. However, the company is also working on something new.
A job posting recently appeared on Blizzard Entertainment’s website for the position of Associate Content Designer on a team that will work on a “unannounced project“. The description of the ad reads:”Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a talented and passionate associate content designer to partner with our team on an unannounced project. As an associate content designer, you will promote the core value of Blizzard’s “Gameplay First” by collaborating with a team of designers, engineers and artists responsible for creating the world of this project.“.
Additionally, the announcement suggests that the upcoming game will definitely be an open world. “Design and implementation of new events and open world content from the conception to the final stages of polishing“, the announcement states.
By reading the description further, we become aware of some more information about this unannounced game. In the “Requirements” section for the position, one is the “understanding the reward mechanics of RPGsSo, it looks like the new game will be an RPG.
Apart from this, the description also mentions “experience of working on a FPS game” And “previous design experience for online / multiplayer games“in the” Plus “section, which suggests that Blizzard Entertainment’s unannounced game will not only be an open world RPG, it will also be an FPS and will feature online multiplayer.
So far, the company has launched a few RPG franchises, such as Diablo and World of Warcraft, and FPS franchises, such as Overwatch. However, there hasn’t been any game that combines both genres.
While the job posting does not mention which platform the game was made for, some other job postings on the Blizzard Entertainment website posted around the same time as this mention an unannounced mobile game. A job posting for a Senior Software Engineer reads: “we are looking for a talented mobile developer who is as enthusiastic as we are about creating amazing gaming experiences for our players“.
Now, the unannounced mobile game job postings don’t mention the genre or any upcoming title information, so these could be two distinct games Blizzard Entertainment is developing. However, as all of these job postings were posted at the same time and for the same study, it’s safe to assume they may be related.
In February, the CEO of Blizzard Entertainment, Bobby Kotick, confirmed that the company has “multiple Warcraft experiences, mobile and free-to-play“in development, so recent job postings seem to make sense.
