Ciudad Juarez.- Two years have passed since organized crime took control of the city, that August 11, 2022, which was recorded as “Black Thursday” for Ciudad Juárez.
It all started with a fight at the Social Reintegration Center (Cereso) number 3 planned by the late leader “Mexicle” Ernesto Alfredo Piñón de la Cruz, alias “El Neto”, which ended in a riot in the prison.
But not everything was inside the prison. According to the journalistic archive, the Fire Department received three reports at the same time at 4:37 p.m.: one on Hiedra Street, at the intersection with Cártamo, where a store belonging to the Rapiditos Bip Bip chain was set on fire, where María del Refugio Gómez Ramírez, 50, the store manager, and Saira Janeth de Santiago Castro, 18, who went to the store to ask for a job, died. The second report was of three men who shot at a Circle K store; a minor was injured in the branch located on Óscar Flores Avenue and died while being treated.
At the same time, a gasoline spill was dealt with on Manuel Gómez Morín Avenue at the intersection with San Antonio, as several bombs were hit by gunshots.
Later, four employees of a radio station were killed outside a pizzeria located on Ejército Nacional Avenue and Rancho Mesteñas. At the branch, three customers of the restaurant were injured by stray bullets.
At 17:54 hours on the Casas Grandes highway at the intersection with De las Cabras Avenue, a fire was reported in a pallet truck.
At 18:34 hours, a truck fire was reported at the intersection of Bertha Escobar and Diecinueveava streets.
At 8:50 p.m., on Heroico Colegio Militar Avenue at the intersection with 5 de Mayo, personnel from the Municipal Public Security Secretariat (SSPM) received two containers of gasoline, which was used as an accelerator in one of the accidents.
At 8:55 p.m., a vehicle fire was reported on Villa del Cedro street at the intersection with San Cipriano, and a school fire was reported on General Terán street at the intersection with Juan Mata Ortiz, and an intentional burning of a truck was reported on Palestina street at the intersection with Bagdad. These incidents also left 12 people injured.
This was the preamble for “El Neto” to escape from Cereso 3 in Ciudad Juárez almost four months later on January 1, 2023.
