It’s a Ferrari that does not go down from the podium to Montmeló. A podium that is worth nothing, it is always good to underline it, but that at least can instill courage and confidence in Maranello for those days in which being in front will count for something. So far Ferrari has collected second and third place in day-1 as well as second position in the morning of day-2 (here the results). What interests team principal Mattia Binotto most, however, is thereliability. Yesterday’s 153 laps, added to the 71 reported by Carlos Sainz this morning, are a very important signal, also considering the gearbox problems of Red Bull and the few laps of Mercedes (127 yesterday and 40 this morning, the W13 has accumulated already 57 less than the F1-75). And perhaps for this reason Binotto was particularly radiant in the press conference of the second day of pre-season tests at Montmeló.
“We are still collecting data, but we are all very close. The differences between the lap times are not huge. I am very proud of this car and the work of our team. The car is beautiful. The limitation of tests and the budget cap only impact if you are inefficient in using the time and resources available. It will take at least four or five races for everyone to figure out how to best manage the car“, Said the engineer from Reggio Emilia, who then focused on one of the problems that the teams are facing, namely the porpoising (literally ‘to advance like a dolphin’, that is to leap): “Solving it is not difficult, it is finding a solution that allows us to maintain an adequate level of performance. It’s a phenomenon we hadn’t seen in simulations and now we have to find the best way to manage it. You tell me it was also there in the days of wing cars but I was too young at the time to make comparisons (laughs, ed). Seriously the machine oscillates with its natural frequency. It is a known phenomenon“.

A few words also about the conflict between Russia And Ukraine which could also have repercussions on the conduct of the Sochi Grand Prix scheduled for September 25: “Seven months from now there is time to decide whether to run or not. F1 in this situation is not the most important thing to discuss. What is happening in Ukraine is much more serious“.
