The solution of the iconic front swingarm, used until now on the super sports cars of the Tesi series, could soon be used by the Rimini brand also on models of a completely different category, such as maxi-enduro and GT
Among the protagonists of the last Milan Motor Show there was also Bimota, the Rimini brand that at Eicma 2021 also added the naked version KB4 RC to the definitive KB4. The Italian brand, now 49% owned by Kawasaki, however, also has other projects for the future, of potentially revolutionary scope: the solution of the front swingarm, until now used on the super sports cars of the Tesi series, could soon be used on new models as well. belonging to other categories, for example on maxi-enduro and GT.
BIMOTA, THE PROJECTS
–
“We are developing something new on the Tesi chassis, we will see it next year or maybe between two” Luigi Marconi, CEO of Bimota, already father of the eccentric Tesi since the debut of the first 1 / D, revealed to Mcn’s microphones. “Up to now the name Tesi has been adopted exclusively on sports bikes – he continued – but now we would like to look further … for example in the adventure and tourer segments”.
Although Tesi is currently synonymous with supercharging (the current H2 is fitted with the same four-cylinder with centrifugal compressor used by the homonymous Kawasaki Ninja), Marconi seems to refer explicitly to the chassis, therefore to the famous front swingarm that was the subject of his degree thesis. more than forty years ago. This would be a bold and to say the least interesting move by Bimota, both because it would open up the use of this solution even on less niche models, and because those who have tried in the past have not collected great commercial results (an experiment for certain similar verses were made by Yamaha in the early 1990s, with the ephemeral Gts 1000).
BIMOTA, ARMED WITH KAWASAKI
–
Obviously in Bimota they are aware that this layout can hardly be “digested” by more traditional users. This is why in Rimini they are careful not to completely abandon the more traditional chassis: “Our philosophy is based on two lines of motorcycles – explained Marconi -. One is the Tesi line, the other is represented by more traditional motorcycles. We like to cultivate both trends, because although the advantages of the Tesi frame are numerous, for many users it is too big a novelty “. Fundamental for the development of the new models will obviously be the contribution of Kawasaki, an increasingly important partner of Bimota and not only in the field of engine supply: “We have the ability to access all of Kawasaki’s data and information, they support us a lot” , underlined the CEO of the Rimini company. “Not only from a financial point of view but also from a technological point of view. You can have millions of euros available, but if you don’t have the technology it is impossible to be ambitious”.
