Doubts even after Alonso
Fernando Alonso's contract renewal with Aston Martin has removed an important question mark in the intricate puzzle of pilots market for the season 2025, with numerous contract deadlines expected at the end of this year. The two-year agreement reached by the two-time world champion with the British manufacturer has obviously not resolved all the other issues still pending which especially involve top teams such as Mercedes and, above all, Red Bull.
Who together with Verstappen?
While Toto Wolff seems to be 'courting' Max Verstappen as a possible replacement for Lewis Hamilton, even if the operation seems quite complex, the other point to be resolved remains that relating to the name of the Dutchman's future teammate should the latter remain in Red Bull. He will be again Sergio Perezwith the Mexican who would therefore renew with the Anglo-Austrian team, or another potential candidate such as Carlos Sainz, arriving from Ferrari?
Brundle's advice
At present, Red Bull has not provided precise indications on the status of negotiations with Perez, as demonstrated by the not entirely clear statements from Christian Horner and Helmut Marko on the decisions they could make soon, while underlining his good performances. The #11 has in fact contributed to the conquest of three hat-tricks in the first four races of the world championship, and who would advise the reigning champion team to focus once again on Perez is a former driver like Martin Brundle.
The Englishman, now a commentator for Sky Sports UK, indicated the reasons in favor of reaching this agreement, for the driver and for the team: “I think that economically it is very useful for Red Bull to have Sergio Perez in the car – has explained – he has a lot of experience, he's not one of those who often crashes into barriers, and It doesn't bother Max. It's fast enough to keep Max on his toes, but not to annoy him. At the moment it is the perfect driver in that seat. There's a reason why Checo was in that car for so long, and that's because it fits Red Bull and what it needs into this moment. I don't think that's changed unless they think there's someone else who can take the opportunity.”
