Anica Panfile's former employer did not speak before the investigating judge, the man made use of the right not to respond: the arrest was validated
The former employer of Anica Panfile, Franco Battaggia, appeared before the investigating judge for the warrant interrogation. The 77-year-old exercised his right not to respond.
The judge validated the arrest, Franco Battaggia is detained in the Santa Bona prison in Treviso. To reconstruct the first dynamics of the crime of the mother found lifeless in the Piave river, it was the Prosecutor Marco Martani during a press conference. Last May 21st, after her husband reported her missing, alarmed by the woman's failure to return, Anica Panfile was found dead in a bend of the river by a fisherman.
The autopsy of Anica Panfile
The autopsy revealed violent blows to the head and one death per suffocation. Investigations then revealed that the last person to have seen her alive was hers former employer, Franco Battaggia, known in the area as the “king of fish”. The man said he had taken her to her house to give her her Cud for her tax return and then accompanied her to a shop because she had told him she had an appointment with someone she owned. . However, law enforcement officials were unable to confirm her story. No camera recorded the man accompanying the woman and no Cud was found.
The words of the authority
Initially it was thought of suicide by drowning, then the first autopsy findings excluded this hypothesis. Firstly, because there was no water in the woman's lungs, and then because there were significant injuries to the face and head. Anica, who at the time of her death was in a situation of cocaine intoxication, was first attacked with bare hands, suffering blows to the skull and face, and then suffocated with very strong pressure on her mouth and nose
Anica got into her former employer's vehicle, which took her home. From that moment on, they are hers lost track. She had remained in contact, via WhatsApp, with her partner.
But the last message displayed by Anica is at 4.07pm, with the verification of the double blue tick on the mobile phone screen, after which the messages are no longer read.
Authorities inspected Battaggia's home. They have found biological traces in the man's bed e traces of cocaine. They also found a rolled up carpet, with other traces of the Panfile:
Our hypothesis is that this served to transport the body to the point where it was abandoned.
No evidence of a premeditated crime
Finally, the Prosecutor explained that the cameras filmed Battaggia's vehicle passing near the place of discovery several times. His versions have always been contradictory and several phone calls traced after the crime and made by the man have given rise to the suspicion that he was trying to escape out of Italy. The police believe that it was not a premeditated crime. The suspicion is that the two consumed cocaine together and then had a relationship, which degenerated into a relationship bad discussion.
