Barcelona City Council will assume the cost of replacing the Nou Sardenya fences. After the fall of one of them during the derby between Europa and Sant Andreu last Sunday – which is why the match had to be suspended – there was some confusion about who would assume this responsibility. The escapulats understood that, since it was a municipally owned facility, the City Council had to pay for it. The Administration maintained that, as concessionaire, the club was also responsible for everything related to the maintenance of the stadium.
After a visit this Wednesday by the Sports Councilor, David Escudé, to Nou Sardenya, the City Council has committed to replacing the two fences behind both goals of the venue. According to a statement from the Gràcia entity, the City Council will change these metal objects “with the aim of guaranteeing safety and adapting them to the demands of the official competitions of the Royal Spanish Football Federation.” The objective is for these works to be ready for the Copa del Rey tie that Europa will play in their home field at the beginning of December.
On Monday, Europa issued a statement calling for urgent improvements to its premises. As reported, in this Wednesday’s meeting “future actions were planned that will allow the Nou Sardenya to continue improving.” “Both parties have agreed on the need to have a field in the best possible conditions, and we have decided to continue working together in future meetings,” they added.
In addition to Escudé, the meeting was also attended by the manager of the Barcelona Esports Institute, Susana Closa, and district technicians. On the part of Europe, its delegation has been led by the president, Hèctor Ibar, accompanied by other members of the scapulated board of directors. The club wanted to “thank” the City Council for the “interest shown and the speed with which they have proposed solutions to improve the facilities.”
