Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden And Vampyr they share the same narrative universe. This was revealed by Stéphane Beauverger of DO N'T NOD in an interview granted to the whatifgaming magazine, in which he touched on various topics.
The question he was asked wondered if, given the similarities between the two games, Banishers was ever thought of as a real sequel. To which Beuverger explained: “I'll tell you a secret: the two games take place in the same narrative universe. The most attentive players can find evidence that proves this, in some clues, objects or documents in the game. For example, the brooch of Charles Davenport resembles the Brotherhood of St Paul symbol stolen in Vampyr.”
Difference between AA and AAA
Beuverger also talked about the difference between an AA and a AAA game in 2024, starting from the assumption that Banishers belongs to the first category and not the second: “It means that we have limited budget, resources and time. It also means that we have to make continuous choices as we develop the game and its features, making the whole experience within the aforementioned budget and resource limits.”
Beuverger then added that in an AA project “you can't reset everything mid-production and ideally you have to stay true to the original plan.” In short, in terms of development, second thoughts cost a lot of money.
