Even without Larian Studios, Wizards of the Coast plans to expand the series further Baldur's Gate and that is already “speaking with many partners“potential for new games.
Considering the huge success of Baldur's Gate 3, it is natural that the company, owner of the rights to Dungeons & Dragons, is interested in creating other games based on this franchise. However, it will not be able to count on the experience and skill of Larian Studios, which has decided not to create DLC for Baldur's Gate 3 or Baldur's Gate 4 to focus on ambitious new projects.
The confirmation came from Eugene Evans, senior vice president of both Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro, who told PC Gamer that discussions have already started with third parties to make new games and that the company will take all the time necessary to establish which is the best path to take.
“We're talking to a lot of partners and we've been approached by a lot of partners who have taken on the challenge of asking what the future of the Baldur's Gate franchise is,” Evans said.
“We hope it doesn't take another 25 years, like Baldur's Gate 2 to 3. But we'll take our time to find the right partner, the right approach and the right product that could represent the future of Baldur's Gate.”
“We take this very, very seriously, as do all decisions we make about our portfolio. We don't make hasty decisions about who to partner with or what products to consider. The bar has been set very high, and it's ours task to reach it and overcome it”.
Baldur's Gate 3 characters may return
While there's really nothing concrete on the horizon for the series at the moment, Evans hinted that we may see the characters from Baldur's Gate 3 again in the futurelike Astarion and Shadowheart, also in other games, as they are now fully part of the Dungeons & Dragons franchise.
“They're essentially part of the D&D canon now,” he explained. “I like to think that all of these characters, for the sake of the fans, could potentially appear in future products.”
