Watch out for Bastianini
After a two week break the MotoGP returns to be the protagonist for the Grand Prix of the Americas scheduled on the wonderful ups and downs of COTA in Austin, Texas. A year ago Francesco Bagnaia won the Sprint but slipped in the race when he was the undisputed leader of the race, thus handing the victory to Alex Rins, owner of Honda's last victory in MotoGP. One of COTA's specialists is Marc Marquez, winner from 2013 to 2018, who in Portimao was involved in a contact with Francesco Bagnaia which eliminated both of them from the race. The Gresini rider is among the favorites on the eve, but also pay attention to Pedro Acosta, winner a year ago in Moto2 and already on the podium in Portimao in his second MotoGP race.
The official Ducati team presents itself with a two-pronged attack more than ever (Malaysia 2023 aside) ahead of the weekend. “The Grand Prix of the Americas is one of my favorites on the calendar – the words of Francesco Bagnaia – the track is fantastic, I really like Austin and the atmosphere of the event is also different than usual. I arrive in America motivated and ready to redeem myself: last year we were competitive all weekend and if I hadn't crashed we would have achieved the victory in the Sunday race too. This year I expect a lot of fast riders and it certainly won't be easy, but we have a good base to start from. In the last GP in Portugal the feeling with the bike was very good, but then in the race on Sunday we were missing something. It will therefore be important to work to prevent it from happening again
Enea Bastianini he will try to follow up on the excellent weekend in Portimao which saw him finish second in the GP behind Jorge Martin. The 2020 Moto2 world champion has already won with the Ducati in Texas: “I'm happy to return to America where I wasn't able to race last year due to my shoulder injury. COTA is a track that I really like and where I have good memories of 2022, when I got my second MotoGP victory, my favorite of that year. After the last weekend in Portugal, I arrive in Austin motivated and confident. I expect a very hard-fought GP, but we are ready: we arrive with a good basic setup and we know what we need to work on in order to improve; therefore, we aim to be among the protagonists of the weekend again“.
