A wave of bad weather hits our Peninsula: Liguria and Tuscany are hit by storms and thousands of lightning strikes. Four mountaineers are missing on Mont Blanc
The bad weather of late summer is hitting the Italian peninsula in these last hours and in particular the Center-North. After the exhausting torrid heat that has characterized our summer climate for entire weeks, an intense storm front is raging in some Italian regions.
The regions most affected by the wave of bad weather
Several regions have been affected by the violent wave of bad weather that has hit Italy in the last few hours. Among these, without a doubt, is the Liguria: in fact, numerous floods have been recorded in the Western Liguriaespecially in the area of Sanremo. A water bomb hit the province of Imperia, where theyellow alert.
The heavy rains caused several problems, although not extremely serious. The flooded streets, due to clogged manholes, created traffic problems.
Numerous floods have affected underpasses and basements. Specifically, due to intense flooding, a temporary traffic closure of a section of state road 720 has been arranged “Taggia variant”, from the start of the route for over a kilometre, in the municipality of Weapon of Taggiain the province of Imperia.

Particular attention is being paid to the bad weather conditions as well. Tuscanyin particular on the Versiliawhich was hit by a small whirlwind.
Even the Tuscan governor, Eugenio Gianiprovided a personal update on the wave of bad weather that hit the Tuscany region:
“An intense disturbance is crossing the areas of Versilia with a strong hailstorm and gusts of wind up to 107km/h in Forte dei Marmi, moving towards the inland areas. Interventions underway for some fallen trees”.
The governor also recalled that the orange alert for the region will be active until 6am tomorrow Monday 9th September.
An orange alert derived from the presence of hydrogeological risk and a storm front, while theyellow alert for hydraulic risk in the areas Etruria Central Coast from 8pm tonight until 7am tomorrow morning.
The governor also reiterated:
“We are paying the utmost attention, our civil protection system is on alert and ready to intervene if necessary. The main front of the disturbance is expected to enter from the afternoon, starting from the central-northern coast and extending to other inland areas in the following hours, with gusts of wind, even very strong, and possible hailstorms. High hourly rainfall intensity with cumulative hourly amounts of up to 60/70 mm/h”.
