The president of the PP of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, presented this Monday a first selection of 16 candidates who will compete in the municipal elections of May 2023. There are many of the main towns in which the conservative party does not govern ―it does so in 82 of the 179 Madrid municipalities―, including Móstoles, Getafe, Alcalá de Henares, Fuenlabrada, Leganés and Parla, all great strongholds of the PSOE and with more than 100,000 inhabitants. Among the names revealed by Ayuso, that of Noelia Núñez, deputy spokesperson for the PP in the Assembly, stands out for Fuenlabrada, where she has never won the PP. The leader of the Madrid Conservatives, who has been left out of this first consignment to Alcorcón, explained that between September and October she will announce the rest of the heads of the list, but that she will wait until after Christmas to make public the names of the candidates from the municipalities in which he does govern, including the capital.
After the steering committee of the PP in Madrid, the also president of the Community of Madrid has announced the 16 names that have been agreed upon at the meeting and that will have to be ratified by the electoral committee, with the idea that they take advantage of the fact that between September and October there are many patron saint festivities to have direct contact with the neighbors. Regarding his chosen ones, Ayuso has highlighted that they are on the “front line” and that they have experience in the field of municipal management and a close relationship with the municipality in which they will be headlining. “We have started with the candidates from large municipalities, so that they can make themselves known among the neighbors,” explained Ayuso, who has not anticipated whether there will be councilors among the future mayors. About the 16 candidates, she has said that they are “very committed, humble, hard-working people who are very eager, which is the most important thing a politician can have.” “They are experienced people, whom I know personally and who I know will do a great job,” she added.
