The application of artificial intelligence in the early diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders; the development and implementation of dedicated applications and software to support people with autism in daily activities; the use of robotics and virtual reality to promote the learning and socialization of autistic children and adults; the ethical and legal challenges related to the use of technology in the field of autism. These are the themes at the center of the conference ‘Artificial intelligence and new technologies for autism spectrum disorders’, organized by the Carlo Mendozzi Ets Foundation today in Salerno, at the Chamber of Commerce.
Objective: to promote greater awareness and understanding of the needs of people affected by autism spectrum disorders thanks to the interventions of specialist doctors and psychologists, through presentations focused on the application of artificial intelligence and new technologies, to improve people’s quality of life with autism spectrum syndrome. At the center of the work are the latest discoveries in the field of assistive technology, best practices in the implementation of technological solutions and the benefits that these innovations can bring to the autistic community.
“Taking care of autism spectrum disorders represents a constant challenge for health services which are called upon to deal with a phenomenon that is growing in numbers and psychosocial complexity – declares Aldo Diavoletto, head of the Neuropsychiatry, Childhood, Adolescence Psychology Operational Unit (Uonpia) Salerno – Among the different approaches relating to management and therapy, the advent of new technologies certainly represents a new frontier and a new opportunity to be experienced for the implications of implementing resources and improving quality. Comparison between experts of the sector, even of different territorial realities, constitutes for our working groups an opportunity for enrichment and appropriate reflection on tools that were little known until now local entities that dedicate themselves with the same motivation and energy; in particular the Mendozzi Foundation, which on this occasion has shown a sensitivity and closeness to our initiatives which is a harbinger of further developments and collaborations. We are certain – he concludes – that the event will provide participants with new insights and reflections to help improve the quality of life of the children entrusted to our care”.
