The 7th place obtained by Max Verstappen in the last British Grand Prix it was the direct consequence of damage suffered by the Dutchman’s Red Bull, which passed over a debris of Yuki Tsunoda’s AlphaTauri which generated a bottom failure of the car. From that moment on, ‘Mad Max’who was in command of the race, lost his pace drastically, leaving his leadership to the Ferraris of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc and defending himself from the attacks of Mick Schumacher in the final.
A real misfortune that Verstappen told in more detail in the pre-GP of Austria drivers press conference, where the reigning world champion will try to make up for his team’s home race: “The debris I hit was quite large – commented number 1 – but when you go at certain speeds you don’t notice anything. He took part of the wing stuck on the bottom, and the car was undriveable, as I was losing 2 seconds per lap. At first I complained about a puncture, also because the car jumped so much at every corner. But then I thought that the suspension had broken, due to the fact that the car seemed out of place, and in any case far from normal conditions. But now comes Austria, which is a very nice weekend for me, but it is above all the home GP for the team. We always do well here, and I really like the circuit for its fast corners mixed with others that are more technical and slow. The continuous changes in slope will also be interesting “.
In addition, Verstappen also expressed his opinion on the inclusion of one psychologist in AlphaTaurieven more so after the recent statements by Red Bull Director Helmut Marko about Yuki Tsunoda, who was considered too hot in the radio teams during the races: “Personally I have never worked with a psychologist – he added – over the years I have happened to be angry with the team, but I don’t think this can directly affect performance. When the day comes when I will no longer feel emotions, even negative ones, it means that I will have more interest in F1. The most important thing, however, is the way in which calm is managed ”.
