Austria reports corona record numbers. The government has announced a nationwide lockdown and further protective measures to contain the pandemic.

Update from November 19, 11:33 a.m .: The Austrian government has taken far-reaching corona measures. In a press conference, Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg, Health Minister Wolfgang Mückenstein and Michael Ludwig presented the protective measures. It will be “a lockdown like last year,” said Schallenberg. The new regulations will apply nationwide from Monday (November 22nd).
The following corona protective measures will come into effect:
- Lockdown: From Monday, a nationwide lockdown applies to unvaccinated and vaccinated people (midnight to midnight). This measure will initially apply for 20 days, but will be evaluated after ten days. The lockdown will end on December 12th at the latest – but only for those who have already been vaccinated.
- schools: Classes in face-to-face should continue to be offered. It is mandatory to wear a mask in all rooms. There is an appeal to all parents to only use the face-to-face lessons, unless otherwise possible. As oe24.de reports, schools are supposed to ensure care and learning packages for the children.
- Vaccinations: The booster vaccination is recommended for vector vaccines from the fourth month. This is also possible with mRNA vaccines from the fourth month. The Green Pass will be shortened to seven months from February 1, 2020.
- Compulsory vaccination: Austria will introduce compulsory vaccinations for everyone from February 1, 2022.
- Home office: Wherever possible, employees should work from home.
- Mask requirement: In all closed rooms there is again an obligation to wear an FFP2 mask.
- Gastronomy and trade have to close on Monday. Supermarkets, drug stores and pharmacies will remain open. Service providers close to the body are also closed. This also includes hairdressers.
Entry into Austria from Germany: what applies?
The entry into Austria was also readjusted. In future, unvaccinated people at the border will have to show a PCR test. As of Monday, rapid antigen tests will no longer be accepted. According to the Robert Koch Institute, almost all of Austria is a high-risk area in Germany.
