Third division soccer team FC Erzgebirge Aue is parting ways with coach Pavel Dotchev in the summer. The coach was “informed in a personal conversation that the club would like to take a new path in this position after the end of the 2024/25 season and that the contract, which expires in June 2025, will not be extended,” it said in a statement. Dotchev has been the coach in the Erzgebirge again since the beginning of December 2022; it is his third term there. The team is currently sixth in the table, two points behind relegation place third.
The separation had been apparent for some time. Not everyone in the club management agreed with Dotchev’s public announcement before the start of the season that they wanted to be promoted but were not the favorites. The relationship between sports director Matthias Heidrich and Dotchev is also considered strained.
