Audi’s V6 diesel engines with outputs up to 286 hp produced from mid-February can be refueled with the HVO fuel according to the European standard EN 15940. This was announced by the car manufacturer of the four rings: HVO, or hydrotreated vegetable oil, is a sustainable fuel that allows a reduction in CO2 emissions between 70 and 95% compared to fossil diesel. This is not the only advantage brought by the HVO: thanks to the significantly higher cetane number, in fact, combustion is much more efficient and cleaner.
“As indicated by the ‘Vorsprung 2030’ plan, from 2026 Audi will launch on the global market exclusively new full electric models. The House of the Four Rings will make an essential contribution to the goal of one zero-emission mobility – said Oliver Hoffmann, Member of the Board for Technical Development of Audi AG – At the same time, we are developing the current portfolio of combustion engines for higher efficiency and lower emissions. One of the possible technical solutions consists in compatibility with the use of sustainable fuels such as HVO “. Audi has made it known that renewable fuels defined as an effective both short and long-term de-poisoning means, they will contribute to the goal of zero-emission mobility and a carbon neutral balance of all the brand’s activities by 2050.
Going more specifically to the range, all Audi V6 Diesel engines with powers up to 286 HP belonging to the ranges A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q7 and Q8 produced from mid-February 2022 can be refueled with HVO fuel. Compatibility for the Audi Q5 3.0 TDI will follow in early March, and thereafter it will be the turn of the 245hp step of the Audi A6 allroad quattro. As for Volkswagen, on the other hand, the Touareg SUV in the 231 hp configuration can use sustainable diesel. In Europethe HVO is also compatible with the 4-cylinder diesel engines of the A3, Q2 and Q3 models produced since June last year: as for the models based on the MLB platform, on the other hand, the four-cylinder TDI of the A4, A5, A6 ranges, The A7 and Q5 can be refueled with HVO since the middle of last year in Sweden, Denmark and Italy.
