Asian swing canceled for the third consecutive year, Italy protagonist with two new 250s and grand finale in Turin in November
It was in the air, now it’s official: no tournaments in China, space for Europe, the United States, Israel and Korea, but above all for Italy. The ATP confirmed the schedule for the last part of the season. In the autumn two new “250” tournaments will be played in Italy: in Florence, from 10 to 16 October, at Palazzo Wanny and in Naples, from 17 to 23 October, at the Tennis Club, where the Arena del Mare will be set up again. The tournaments in Florence and Naples have become part of the 2022 calendar, like four other events, with an annual license because the ATP has confirmed the cancellation of the tournaments initially scheduled in Asia. The Rolex Shanghai Masters, the China Open (in Beijing), the Chengdu Open and the Zhuhai Championships, according to the ATP press release, will not take place due to the restrictions still in force due to Covid-19. For the third consecutive year, therefore, the series of tournaments in Asia is canceled between September and October.

The grand finale of the season will still be in Italy with the Intesa Sanpaolo Next Gen Atp Finals in Milan and the Nitto Atp Finals in Turin. “I believe that the credibility of the Italian tennis system at an international level is at the top of our history. Internally, within our country, there is a widespread perception that the value of tennis, and now also of padel, with major events , create an induced activity that arouses an interest never seen on the part of local administrations “, said the president of the Italian Tennis Federation, Angelo Binaghi, during a press conference at Palazzo Vecchio, to present the UniCredit Firenze Open. Andrea Gaudenzi, President of the ATP, said: “As a global sport we continue to manage the impacts of the pandemic. Event cancellations are an unfortunate reality and we wish the best to the tournament members and interested fans. At the same time, it is encouraging. that many big cities come forward to host the tennis of the ATP Tour this season “.
