At the beginning of June, a strong interest from Barcelona in two Chelsea players emerged publicly: César Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso. Both Spanish sides, with some experience and, above all, wanting to return to the Spanish league.
Almost two months later no signing has come to fruition, but it seems that they have not really even begun to negotiate, so the vast majority wonder: In what state is each of the signings?
We will first go with César Azpilicueta which is the most complicated case. The Navarrese winger dreams of returning to the Spanish league, either through Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid or even Athletic Club. Everything indicates that his priority would be to land in Barcelona, but the key to his possible arrival continues to reside in Jules Koundé’s decision. If the French player opts for Barça instead of Chelsea, it is very possible that the British will close any exit door to Azpilicueta in the direction of Catalonia, since in this market the Catalans have already snatched four players from Chelsea: Andreas Christensen, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and now, Koundé. Compared to Marcos Alonso we can say that this signing is more feasible because the right-back position urgently needs a facelift.
The signing of Mark Alonso it is something more complex. Barça has not wanted to plan an offensive due to the fact that the main target of the culé board for several seasons has been José Gayá. It seems that the Valencian player will continue in the team, and that is why they have focused on the possible arrival of Marcos Alonso. The key to this signing lies in the preseason completed by Álex Balde. Until now he is the substitute left back and Xavi has given him minutes in all the matches on the tour. If the very young winger from the quarry ends up convincing the Catalan coach about Marcos Alonso, he will be forgotten.
