ROG in its weekly ROG Pulse appointment via live streaming video confirmed what we all already knew: the next model of ROG Ally will be announced soon. Precisely, the company has revealed that there will be a special announcement of June 2 is that the official name is ROG Ally X.
It has been precisely said that the next ROG Ally will be revealed during that event. During the ROG Pulse, Jake Kulinski and Whitson Gordon they couldn’t reveal much about what awaits us, but the two wanted to give some information regarding the portable hardware, also due to the fact that there have been many rumors recently.
What has been confirmed about ROG Ally
Gordon explained that the new hardware will not simply be an update of the old model: we should not expect the same device with a single improved specification, but something more. At the same time it is not a completely new generation nor should a complete redesign be expected. According to ROG, it’s something in between these two extremes.
The official name it will therefore not be ROG Ally 2 but ROG Ally X. According to the company, it is an evolution of the previous model designed for true enthusiasts of this technology and practically every component has been designed based on buyer feedback.
Kulinski adds that among the things improved in ROG Ally drums (we are talking about a big improvement in this case, 30-40%), storage space (support for NVMe M.2 SSD with form factor up to 2280), RAM (support for LPDDR5X-7500), connection ports and also some other “physical” components of the console (Gordon at that moment mimed pressing the keys with his hands, so we assume that we are talking about the buttons or perhaps the levers).
The dimensions should remain the same. The location of the SD card reader has been moved to avoid malfunction issues. Furthermore, this model It will be available in black. Pricing hasn’t been confirmed, but expect a figure higher than $699.
ROG Ally X will be built around the Z1 Extreme and will have the same screen. However, there will be “more than that”. Unfortunately they didn’t add any more details about it and repeated that we will have to come back on June 2nd to find out more about it.
The PC/Portable Console will also include the software Armory Crate SE v1.5, with a notable improvement in UI. Among the new features is the fact that you can add games to a favorites list. It will also be easier to divide games by platform/store. It will also be possible to view games in a list, instead of in a grid, and there will be many options to customize the user interface (size, positioning, scrolling, background management…).
