Asturias has suffered about twenty forest fires in 15 councils on Wednesday night. This has led to the Principality government to Activate the emergency phase In situation 0, the lowest of the expected four, of the forest fire plan of the Principality of Asturias (Infopa).
As reported by the Emergency Service of the Principality of Asturias, the twenty forest fires are registered in the councils of Allande, Belmonte de Miranda, Cabrales, Cangas de Onís, Cangas del Narcea, Grade, Langreo, Morcín, Oviedo, Peñamellera Alta, Piloña, Ponga, Ribadedeva, Ridabesella, Yernes and Tame.
The Minister of Mobility, Local Cooperation and Emergency Management, Alejandro Calvo, has declared at 9:40 p.m. the high number of foci and for the expected weather conditionswith winds of southern component and gusts of up to 110 kilometers per hour in the mountain range and the peaks of Europe.
This situation, the lowest of the four that establishes the plan, is caused by the existence of one or more simultaneous forest fires that can be controlled with the means and resources assigned to the plan.
The Infopa remained activated in the alert phase, prior to the emergency, since January 15.
This plan is activated automatically, annually, coinciding with The times of high and medium danger that in Asturias correspond, respectively, with the periods between January 15 and April 30 and between July 15 and October 15.
