L’Aston Martin continues to be one of the queens of the market this summer 2022. After securing the services of Fernando Alonso as a replacement for Sebastian Vettel and having bought up engineers from Red Bull and beyond, in fact, the Silverstone team would be about to get their hands on one of the most interesting young talents on the international motor scene: Felipe Drugovich. The 22-year-old Brazilian driver, now very close to winning the Formula 2 title, would in fact be one step away from becoming a reserve driver in the team owned by Lawrence Stroll. According to the local press – and in particular from the site terra.com.br – the agreement with Drugovich would also involve XP Investimentos.
Through his sponsor, the Brazilian would be able to give the team about R $ 36.3 million as a dowry 7 million euros. Drugovich’s agreement would in part recall the much discussed one that tied Oscar Piastri to Alpine. In fact, the South American driver would have guaranteed in front of him participation in some free practice sessions next season and in private tests with the 2021 car. However, there would be no certainty of his F1 debut as owner in 2024, considering the two-year contract signed by Fernando Alonso and the presence in the team of Lawrence Stroll’s son, Lance. Barring market upheavals during the next championship, therefore, the first concrete opportunity to become a starter for Drugovich would only come in the 2025 championship.
