Based on the information already emerged through the details released by Ubisoft, the fact emerges that Assassin’s Creed Shadowsthe new chapter of the series recently announced, will require an internet connection also with regards to physical versionalready to perform theinstallation initial.
There aren’t many explanations about it but the writing “internet required to install the game” is already visible on the pages dedicated to Assassin’s Creed Shadows at some retailers such as GameStop and Best Buy, making it clear how the online requirement this also applies only to being able to launch the game from disk for the first time.
The reason is not further clarified, but it will probably be necessary to download a fix package such as day one patch or similar, something that has become decidedly common in modern games for a few years now.
A widespread standard
In fact, the same requirement can also be found in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and will also be present in Star Wars Outlaws, just to remain within the scope of the most recent Ubisoft games, so it is a sort of new standard for the now widely adopted publisher.
In the case of Avatar, the connection was necessary to download the substantial day one patch which corrected various elements of the code: evidently these updates have become substantially mandatory, even if we do not yet know the specific reason for the request.
Although in 2024 the online requirement is not exactly a major technical problem, many players do not look favorably on these requests, especially from the perspective of software preservation in the future, when it is possible that the connected servers will be deactivated thus making it impossible to run the games (although this is a one-off initial activation).
On the other hand, Ubisoft has already caused quite a stir with the deactivation of online support for The Crew and its total removal from the market which made it impossible even for players who have already purchased the game to be able to use it subsequently.
