Artists and representatives of environmental entities will meet in Brasília this Wednesday (9) to protest against agendas that are controversial and that, according to them, promote setbacks in the environment.
Organized by Caetano Veloso, artists such as Lázaro Ramos, Malu Mader, Nando Reis, Bruno Gagliasso, Emicida and Christiane Torloni, in addition to social movements, will participate in a public hearing in the Black Room of the Federal Senate. They will meet with the president of the House, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD), and deliver a manifesto signed by 230 entities asking for a pause in the processing of bills.

At 3:00 pm, the “Ato pela Terra” is scheduled, in front of the Congress, in which these representatives will make speeches and musical performances, including Caetano Veloso.
Five projects are in the sights of these leaders, a joint dubbed “Package of Destruction”. A good part of them passed through the Chamber and is now being processed in the Senate, hence the meeting with Pacheco. This Tuesday (8), Arthur Lira (PP), president of the Chamber, included one of the projects in the plenary voting agenda, one of these projects, PL 191/2020, which authorizes the exploration of ore in indigenous lands.
This project regulates, among other items, the exploration of potash and, in Lira’s view, can reduce the impacts that the Brazilian market will have with a crisis in the supply of Russian fertilizers – a very important item for Brazilian agribusiness and which should become increasingly scarce as the war with Ukraine progresses in Eastern Europe.
Other points of the so-called Destruction Package also target projects for the demarcation of indigenous lands, land grabbing, environmental licensing and the release of the use of pesticides without authorization from Anvisa and Ibama.
