MISSING JOURNALIST AND INDIGENIST
The week was marked by investigations into the disappearance the British journalist Dom Philips and the Brazilian indigenist Bruno Pereira.
They were last seen in the Javari Valley near the Peruvian border on June 5.
On Wednesday (June 15, 2022), the PF (Federal Police) found human remains at the place indicated by suspect Osney de Oliveira.
According to the PF, Oseney confessed that Dom and Bruno were killed. He and his brother, the fisherman Amarildo, are prisoners.
The human remains found were sent for expertise in Brasilia.
CHINA X TAIWAN
Tensions between China and the island of Taiwan intensified on Tuesday (14.Jun.2022).
China claimed the Taiwan Strait as part of its territory. However, the Taiwanese government stated that the canal is an international waterway used to support US warships.
Tensions have grown in the region in recent months.
In an interview with Power 360on Monday (June 13, 2022), the representative of Taiwan in Brazil said there was no doubt that the China will attack the island.
REMAINS OF BREXIT
On Wednesday (June 15, 2022), the European Union established 2 new legal proceedings against the UK. The bloc says the country violated the Brexit deal by announcing a new law on the Northern Ireland protocol.
The agreement stipulated that there would be no border checkpoints between Ireland – a member of the European Union – and Northern Ireland – belonging to the United Kingdom.
THE new proposal of Boris Johnson’s government proposes exemption from customs controls on British products exported to Northern Ireland and an end to taxes. The vice president of the European Commission said that renegotiation of the agreement is not a possibility.
The case will be heard by the Court of Justice of the European Union. If convicted, the British government will be subject to fines, which can include economic sanctions and trade tariffs.
WAR IN UKRAINE
On Tuesday (June 14, 2022), the Ukrainian government reported that Russia made it difficult to evacuate more than 500 civilians in Severodonetsk after attacks destroy the last access bridge to the city.
People are trapped inside a factory that withstood Russian bombings carried out all week. Despite this, the mayor of the city said that the withdrawals are carried out “when there is the possibility of transport”.
On Wednesday (June 15, 2022), the President of the United States, Joe Biden, announced the sending of $1 billion to Ukraine for the purchase of heavy weapons.

WIKILEAKS
On Friday (June 17, 2022), the UK Home Secretary approved the extradition of Julian Assange, founder of the Wikileaks platform, to the United States.
Assange now has 14 days to appeal the final decision. The case could end up in the UK Supreme Court, which in March already denied an appeal by the journalist to avoid his extradition.
